the Meisner techniques will help improvisers:

a) listen actively

b) be present in their scene work

c) focus more on their scene partners than themselves

d) learn to respond from their own authentic point of view.

The Meisner technique is an approach to acting developed by Sanford Meisner, an American actor and acting teacher. Meisner defined acting as “living truthfully under imaginary circumstances.” That definition was refined by Meisner’s protégé William Esper as: “acting is doing things truthfully under imaginary circumstances.”

This two-part workshop will support strong improvised choices. Remember that annoying game we all played as kids where we asked 'why' to every response? Maddening! And yet, it's a helpful tool as an improviser. (Why?)...Because uncovering the 'why' can:-clarify your character point of view-strengthen your relationship to your scene partner and circumstances-increase your level of commitment to the moment(Why?)...Because once you know your motivation, you have a clear path for how to react and respond.(Why?)...Because it takes the guesswork out of it all. (Why?)...Because go to your room.
